Introduction
A 50 Service Error or 50 Error on a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printer indicates a problem with the fuser of the printer. A number of factors may cause the error. Some of these factors include the following:
- Low fuser temperature
- High fuser temperature
- Faulty fuser
- Inconsistent fuser
- Fuser warm-up failure

Troubleshooting
NOTE: Disconnect the data cable and remove any additional memory to prevent any misleading symptoms.
- each of the following suggestions for resolving common issues:
- Turn the printer off for 20 minutes and allow the fuser to cool (this may resolve high temperature fuser errors).
- Re-seat the cooled fuser assembly (this may resolve other non-temperature related fuser errors).
- If the printer is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, plug it directly into a wall socket or different circuit (this may resolve errors caused by an inadequate supply of electricity).
- Try a different power cord (the current power cord may be damaged).
The tables below describe fuser errors in greater detail for some HP LaserJet printers.
